Click a Christmas light bulb to toggle the light on/off (disabled until next year)
About the project
Ok we admit this might not be best use of home automation and probably doesn't add much intelligence to your smart home. But seeing as it's the Christmas season we decided to do a little Christmas automation with our tree.
Our lovely family Christmas tree has 3 strands of lights, red, green and blue each of which are attached to individual lamp control modules. For safety, the modules are then plugged into a power strip which is then plugged into the wall.
We have given you a choice of 3 light bulb images. When you click on a bulb a request is sent to our server which in turn communicates with the home controller to toggle the lights on/off. By combining the power of the internet and some creative home automation you can come up with some pretty amazing solutions.
Of course we do not recommend making any part of your automated smart home publicly available on the internet. You should always use a unique username and password (not the same as your bank password) if you are going to expose any smarthome device/service on the internet. We also recommend implementing SSL (secure sockets layer) as an extra level of network protection. Since our little project is meant to be publicly available on the internet we have taken a few measures to monitor and control access to our automated Christmas tree.
Sorry about the poor camera image, the lighting in that part of my living room is nonexistent.
